How to use this calculator
  1. Use one game and one spread for your player bets.
  2. Enter the total dollars risked on the favorite and underdog. Use $0 on a side with no bets.
  3. Try a layoff amount. Open the line and odds controls if your prices differ.

Do not combine player bets at different spreads or odds into one total. This simple tool cannot show all the risks in a mixed-line book.

Example, math and limits

A matching line and a worse line

In the filled example, players risk $2,200 on the favorite −3.5 and $1,100 on the underdog +3.5. Both sides are −110.

  • Without a layoff: the book’s biggest possible loss is $900.
  • Lay off $1,100 at −3.5 and −110: the book keeps $100 whichever side covers.
  • Change that layoff to −9.5: a favorite win by four through nine leaves a $2,000 loss.

What counts in the result

  • Winning players receive their profit. Losing players contribute their risked stake. A push has no net win or loss.
  • A winning layoff adds its profit. A losing layoff subtracts its risked stake.
  • At −110, $110 risked wins $100 profit. At +150, $100 risked wins $150 profit.
  • Use the same game period and overtime rules for every bet.
  • Whole and half-point spreads only. Parlays, quarter lines, voids, fees and collection risk are outside this tool.

The calculator compares possible scores. It does not predict the game or choose a layoff amount.
